The movie “Twister” released on the 10th of May in 1996. Earning over $495 million worldwide, it ended up being the second highest grossing film of that year. On top of this, “Twister” also received a countless number of positive reviews and was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.
The motion picture gained popularity simply because of how unique it was, especially for a film released in the 1990s, with way less technological advancements than in the present. Audience members seemed to have been absolutely blown away by the special effects and suspenseful action scenes that toy with the heart strings. Parents were in complete support of the film as well, adding that it was a great flick to watch with their children. This is merely because it didn’t have inappropriate language or overly violent affairs.
Starring two incredibly famous actors Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, the movie, directed by Jan de Bont, portrayed both scientific research and diagrams of tornadoes. As well as that, depicting a visual EF5 tornado that manifested surprise and excitement within viewers' eyes.
“Twisters,” the film inspired by “Twister” 1996 released on July 19th and has been a big hit, still running in theaters over a month after its release. As of August 25, 2024, “Twisters” has made $347.3 million in box office, nearly as much as the original film.
Lee Issac Chung, the director of Twisters, was inspired to create this summer blockbuster because of a formidable occurrence he experienced in his own life. When he was a child, he and his family were moving into a trailer on a farm when they heard that a tornado was approaching, and they didn’t know what to do. He produced this movie, not only because he was a huge admirer of the original film, but also because he wanted to remind individuals that it is absolutely all right to not know what to do in the moment, and to feel frightened and frustrated, as long as you keep persevering, which is exactly what Kate Cooper did in the film.
Daisy Edgar Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos portray the three main meteorologists in the successful motion picture. The movie portrays a girl whose dream is to catch a tornado, and then goes on to go on to show how she continues to pursue that dream, even with the trauma she faced in the past. She makes friends along the way, and becomes inspired by Tyler Owens, a tornado wrangler who she seemingly despised at the beginning of the film.
Addressing a topic that was not heavily discussed in the 1996 film “Twister” also gave the 2024 flick some plus points. It delves into how catching a tornado and measuring whether it’s an EF1 or EF5 is incredibly cool, but does not matter as much as helping the people who have been affected in that specific area the Tornado occurred.
The film consists of frightening disaster scenes, deaths of supporting characters, sweet affection between two particular characters, mass destruction, and several life-or-death scenes of natural disasters, making it especially exciting to view, particularly in 4D which was also an option for this specific film.
Overall, “Twisters” 2024 is an incredible film and also a must-watch. While it is definitely inspired by the original film created in 1996, it also stands alone in terms of specific aspects and definitely lives up to the first.
