What type of blush suits you? A guide to master the art of the blush

Shiza Shamoon

Think you look bad with blush? It may be because you're not using it properly! In today’s blog we will help you to do the perfect blush, from finding the perfect blush color to the best blush placement. This blog will also give you the best blush recommendations, within your budget!

  1. COLOR

Firstly, we need to find the perfect shade. The main reason people “look bad” with blush on is because they're getting the wrong color! Remember to note that not everyone looks good with the standardized peachy pink color, instead we must first discuss our skin colors and complexions.

For our pale skin girlies, try a light pink, peach or a coral blush. These shades will help you achieve a natural effect yet still with a pop of color. Some blushes you can try out are..

  • e.l.f Monochromatic Multi-Stick: Dazzling Peony (USD $5 )

  • Maybelline Fit Me Blushes: Mauve (USD $7)

  • Persona Cosmetics Dreamstick Cream Blush (USD $26)

If you have medium skin, try a bright pink, a warmer mauve, or deeper peach shades. Having medium skin or tan skin means you may have a chance rocking on a bright pink blush while still not looking like a clown and achieving a natural look. There are many blushes that you can test out, but here are a few..

  • Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush: Shades -  Joy, Worthy, Hope, Happy, Bliss ($23 USD)

  • Nars Liquid Blush: Org$sm ($32 USD)

  • wet n wild Color Icon Blush: Mellow Wine ($3 USD)

And last but not least, if you have dark skin, try wearing some mauve colors, orange , or fuchsia shades. Some recommendations are..

  • e.l.f Cosmetics Putty Blush: Tahiti ($7 USD)

  • Morphe 2 Perk Up Cheek & Lip Color: Berry Dreams ($12 USD)

  • LYS Beauty High Satin Matte Cream Blush ($18 USD)

  1. Placement

Once you find your perfect color it’s time for the placement! To find the best blush placement for you, it’s important to look and carefully observe your face shape. We will discuss 4 types of face shapes, wide, narrow, long, and short faces. Remember, most of us probably have more than 1 face shape. For example: Wide & Short, Long & Narrow, etc.

If you have a wide face, typically seen in round or square faces, do not put the blush on the outer side of your cheeks, instead trying to bring it into the inner side/inwards.

For the girls with narrow faces, do the opposite! Spread your blush to the outer parts of the cheeks. This will create a more balanced proportion on your face.

If you have a longer face, avoid putting your blush downwards as it can make your face seem longer, instead bring it up to right below your under-eyes.

And last but not least, short faces! If you have a short face, again just do the opposite of what you would do with long faces. Bring your blush downwards to make your facial features more balanced and proportional.

If you have more than 1 face shape, just combine both! For example, if you have a long and narrow face,  bring your blush into the parts of the outer parts of your cheek while bringing it upwards , and this goes for all face shapes. Long & Narrow, Wide & Short, Wide & Long, you name it. But  remember, you can only choose between long or narrow and wide or short.

To summarize all that has been said, this blog gives you an insight on achieving the perfect blush look, helping you find the perfect color to what placement suits you the best! I hope after reading this, you can finally master the craft of the blush!
